Cross Country boys and girls put on a show at the Robin Gaines Team Trial. With Peyton Tyler and David Hergenroder finishing first and third, respectively, and Vanessa Cardwell and Allie Smith grabbing the top two spots, it proves how much better this team is becoming every time they compete.
“It is my personal best time, after my first mile I knew it was going to be a good race for me,” first place finisher Vanessa Cardwell exclaimed about her performance. If this progress continues with the four outstanding runners, it is hard to see anybody coming close to slowing them down.
“We just keep working hard each week and it shows by how much we get better,” David Hergenroader said in his anticipation for competing at state.
But teams don’t just compete at this high of a level without a great sense of character and leadership ability. “David is such a good kid who never lets up and has been such a good senior leader for the team this year,” Assistant Coach Peggy Dupree excitedly praised. David is the captain of the boys team and his leadership has shown through his teammates’ uncanny ability of placing high as well: with Tyler coming in first, David in third, and David Gunther placing 9th.
The leadership and work ethic will only increase as State preparations commence.
