On October 20, 2012, Victoria Cumbow, a woman from Madison, set out for a 105 mile bike ride in Death Valley, California.
The lengthy ride was put on by JDRF, for diabetes research and Victoria Cumbow, having diabetes herself, was thrilled to be able to participate. Even though she only made it 70 miles, she was overjoyed with the ride and happy with the outcome.
“I was overwhelmed with the outpouring of love, support and encouragement from friends and family both through prayer and financial gifts. Together, we reached our goal, and everyone’s words of encouragement helped me finish the ride today.”
With 316 riders on the course, the ride raised more than 1.2 million dollars that will go towards diabetes research.
“Today was, by far, one of the most emotional days of my life. It’s difficult to explain, but when you’re surrounded by a group of people with a similar bond, it’s overwhelming,” Cumbow emotionally proclaimed.
Victoria Cumbow says she will continue to participate in JDRF fundraisers and looks forward to more.
