On Tuesday, the Walt Disney Co. bought Lucasfilm, the studio founded by George Lucas that created The Star Wars and Indiana Jones series, for 4.05 billion dollars. Disney already has plans to release a new Star Wars film dubbed Episode 7 in 2015 and two more to follow… presumably Episode 8 and 9. They plan on releasing a new Star Wars film every two to three years until the release of Episode 9.
Star Wars has a very large and varied fan base and not everyone is reacting to the news in the same way. Some fans are excited about all the new possibilities, though some are skeptical of Disney’s ability to come through with a quality product.
Thomas Baldwin, a junior at Bob Jones said “I think it’s terrible” He then joked, “I am looking forward to Chewbacca’s musical number.”
As to why Lucas sold the company, Thomas speculates, “The company was probably going into the ground. They haven’t made a good movie in a long time.”
Another Junior at Bob Jones, Cyrus Patel had a more positive out look on the situation. He said, “I think it’s going to be either really good or really bad. No middle Ground. It’s either going to be Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire or Star Wars: Luke’s Son Goes to the Dentist and Lives Happily Ever After.”
With fans split on this issue it seems that only time will tell whether or not Disney can pull off Star Wars: Episode 7.
