On the first day of school, many student’s jaws dropped as they walked into the cafeteria. The old mile-long, rectangular tables were gone. These eyesores are a thing of the past; instead our usual eating space is filled with booths, high top tables, and new diamond-shaped tables. These aren’t the only changes expected to take place at the Bob.
Since the Spring of 2013, meetings have taken place to decide what our building needs to catch up with the new age, 21st century school model. One topic discussed was the idea of making renovations to the Media Center. This under utilized part of Bob Jones–as current plans go–is going to experience changes in technology as well as receiving many cosmetic changes. There will be more collaborative areas for students to work on projects as groups.
To the relief of many students, the coffee shop is expected to survive the architecture. Instead of the repurposed circulation desk that currently hosts the shop, there is talk of getting an actual coffee bar.
“They will create an area that will be the coffee shop,” Mrs. Huskey, Media Specialist, comments, “I’m really excited.”
Other renovation rumors include switching many of the textbooks to digital books, getting rid of lockers, security upgrades, and adding furniture around the school. Who knows what our beloved school will end up looking like once everything is said and done, but one thing is for sure: Bob Jones will always be a welcome home for all Patriots.
