One pint of blood can save three people’s lives. You can save lives by donating blood on Sunday, September 8th, from 12:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. at the LifeSouth Center at 8190 Madison Blvd. To get there, take Hughes to Madison Blvd., then make a left. After about a quarter mile, you will see the LifeSouth Community Blood Center.
You must sign up before Sunday, September 8th, to donate. Do this at http://fs18.formsite.com/
First, make sure that you are eligible to donate. If you are 16-years-old or younger, you need the consent of a parent or guardian. At the blood center, a representative will interview you and give you a quick physical exam. Make sure you meet the guidelines regarding medications, ear/body piercings, and tattoos. All personal and medical information you give the LifeSouth Center will remain confidential. Visit http://www.lifesouth.org/
Bob Jones and James Clemens are competing to see which school can donate more blood on Sunday. The cheerleading squads of both schools are hosting the blood drive. Mark your calendars and bring everyone you can to support this life saving effort.
To Ms. Williams, the Bob Jones cheerleading coach, the blood drive is a special opportunity as well as a responsibility. “It is important because it saves lives,” she said. “My grandmother needed blood after a surgical operation. People need to understand that donating blood is providing the gift of life.”
Blood donations are essential to the survival of millions of Americans every year. Chances are, one of your family members has been saved by a blood donor. When I was born, my mom almost bled to death. I will be forever grateful to the person who donated blood so that she could live.
Victoria Tolley, a junior at Bob Jones, also appreciates the generosity of blood donors. “My step-mother was involved in a serious car accident a few years ago,” she said. “Her life was saved because of a blood donor.”
