Everyone is talking about the release of iOS 7, the new mobile operating system for iPods and iPhones. In the midst of the anticipation for iOS 7, Apple recently announced a new operating system for its Macs: OS X Mavericks. Apple calls OS X Mavericks “the world’s most advanced desktop operating system.”
OS X Mavericks will add 200 features and improvements. Macs running OS X Mavericks are more responsive and less power hungry. The new desktop operating system will have support for features like Notifications, iBooks, and Maps, which are common in mobile devices running iOS. The most highly anticipated feature of OS X Mavericks is the new multiple display layout. According to the Apple website,”OS X Mavericks is taking full advantage of every display connected to your Mac, giving you even more flexibility to work the way you want. There’s no longer a primary or secondary display — now each has its own menu bar, and the Dock is available on whichever screen you’re working on.” Will this be enough to keep OS X Mavericks from being overshadowed by iOS 7?
According to Hannah Forrest, a senior at Bob Jones and proud MacBook Pro owner, iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks are not “competing with each other. They work together to make their respective products the best they can be. I’m very excited for OS X Mavericks. I grew up using Apple’s products and new updates like these rarely disappoint.”
Hannah isn’t the only one excited for the update. Kristie Martins, a senior at Bob Jones and MacBook Pro owner, said, “I’m excited to see how much more convenient the layout will be, and I’m curious to see how they have re-organized all the new features and improvements.”
According to computerworld.com, OS X Mavericks is rumored to be released in late October.
