Last Saturday, Feb. 22, metal band Abandoned Sanctity and hardcore band Give In gave their final shows at the Multiplex. Belial, Sightings and Evertheless also played alongside them.
The ending of the bands held a lot of sorrow for many people. When asked about how the final show with Abandoned Sanctity felt, the band’s drummer, Cyrus Patel, said, “A normal answer would be to say that it felt bittersweet, but it wasn’t, it’s just bitter. I have so many amazing memories of playing with those guys. I am sad to see it end.”
The show was also an emotionally poignant moment for many longtime fans. One concert goer, Alicia Eidsaune, said that, “ it tugged at my heart strings to see them breaking up because I’ve been coming for a long time and watching them grow as musicians and now it’s like were all moving somewhere different with our lives.” She said her favorite part of the evening though, was when Russ Rogers gave his final speech, because she always liked listening to Russ.
“You can really feel his passion when he performs.” Josh Norris, band member of Give In and Suffer Life said that when he was watching Abandoned Sanctity, he cried, but hopefully not ever again.
However, there were some silver linings to the dark cloud of the bands’ endings. Jackson Moore filled in for Abandoned Sanctity on the guitar, which he said, “was honestly my dream since I first saw them three years ago. I’ve been waiting to fill in for all this time and what better way than to play their very last show.”
Nathan Carter, who has been booking shows for a long time said that Abandoned Sanctity has been one of the bands that has really kept the music scene alive in the area and has been the best at promoting their shows. “They’re always willing to play.”
The band members will still continue this passion in the music scene, even though the band won’t continue on. In fact, Blaythe Steur, member of Abandoned Sanctity, played with his new band, Evertheless at the concert.
In regards to this, Rogers told the audience that he is, “really happy for Blaythe. This is what he’s been wanting to do for a long time.”
Patel also played with his other band, Belial on the bass.
When talking about his future music plans, Patel said, “I hope to tour with them all over the place and just travel, play music, and eat unhealthy food.” It was also a nice moment for many band members when their parents came out to watch them play. For Patel it was the first time his parents had seen either of his bands . “They thought it was cool that I had a hand in creating that music.”
Many are also excited for what the area music scene still has to hold. Jackson Moore states that this show truly gave insight into the musician’s character.“ My favorite part of the show was watching how passionate people are about keeping the scene going and supporting the bands. “
