St. Jude Marathon

The annual St. Jude marathon is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate it than with a friendly Bob Jones vs. James Clemens competition? When asked about the details of this marathon, Bridget Drummond, who is in charge of peer helpers, explains “Each year, Madison City Schools raises thousands of dollars in support of this wonderful organization. This year, Mrs. Lambert will be our hero running for St. Jude on December 5th in Memphis. Something new this year is that the schools are being divided into two teams, Madison City Patriots and Madison City Jets.”

The competition will be about raising money. Each school will need to donate as much money as they can to their chosen runner, and whichever school has the most money donated wins! We all enjoy a little Bob Jones vs. James Clemens competition, so why not go out and donate?

Your dollars will not only help our school win the contest, but they will also help fund the largest research hospital for child cancer patients. Donations have truly made a difference in St. Jude’s research and efficiency. Statistics show that in 1962, child cancer survival rate was only 20%. Now, thanks to the treatments invented by St. Jude’s Research Hospitals, the survival rate now is up to 80%. Think of how much that rate will increase if our donations become even more generous and consistent than they already are. Mrs. Drummond said, “With your help, St. Jude can continue to treat children afflicted with cancer and continue the fight to cure our society of this horrible disease.”

The S2S Peer Helpers collected donations at this past football game, and there is talk of some competitions for students and teachers that should be happening soon.
