The New Tesla Model 3
April 20, 2016
The Toyota Prius gets almost 45 mpg to the gallon. The Chevy Volt gets 42, and can go 53 miles just on battery life. What about cars that run just on battery though? The Nissan Leaf is fully electric. Going about 100 miles on a charge.
Then there’s the Tesla, it all started with their roadster back in 2008. It was a completely electric coupe that could go 245 miles with just one charge. Not only was it super efficient, it was also fast; Going 0-60 mph in less than 4 seconds. Then in the summer of 2012 Tesla released a new car, the model S. The S had the same concept, but was a more practical sedan. However it could go almost 400 miles with one charge. The S was even faster than the roadster with a 0-60 of 2.8. That’s competing with super cars.
The problem with Tesla’s first production cars is that they are very expensive, too much for the average person to afford. The Roadster costed over $100,000 and The Model S was around $70,000. So on April 1st Tesla Announced their new vehicle, The Model 3. The Model 3 is another fully electric car. The Model 3 can go 215 miles on a full charge. It has auto pilot driving features. The Model 3 does 0-60 in right under 6 seconds, and fits 5 adults. The biggest feature on this car is the price. You can have a fully electric, fast, and stylish Tesla for only 35,000 dollars. That’s about the same price as a brand new Acura Tl, cheaper than a new Audi A4, and barely more than a Chevy Silverado pickup truck.
For $35,000, Tesla can reach so many more customers. Many people want a Tesla, but not many people want to pay super-car prices. Over 325,000 people have reserved the model 3 in the past week.
Automated driving has started to become included in high class cars, and Tesla plans to keep up with its competitors. This “autopilot mode” allows you to drive hands free as the car will keep itself within the lines and keep a safe distance from other cars. The tesla can also park itself, they added this feature to the Model S a while back.
A lot of celebrities own teslas such as Matt Damon, Morgan Freeman, and Ben Affleck.
Now you can afford a car like them, at least that’s Elon Musk’s (the founder of Tesla Motors) goal. The new Tesla will go into production and be available in the summer of 2017.
