Alabama Senate Run 2017

There’s a race going on between the two candidates fighting for Alabama’s Senate representative slot. Doug Jones is representing the Democratic party and Roy Moore is representing the Republican party. This battle for the Alabama Republican primary was a heated one seeing as President Trump came to visit Alabama last month to endorse his support for Republican runner Luther Strange, who lost the primary to Roy Moore. Both candidates are campaigning by doing interviews and traveling the state. The voting date is December 12.

Roy Moore’s platform is conservative. One Republican student Sarah Beth Besherse said, “I don’t know too much about this election, but I would vote for Roy Moore  because he shares some of the same views as me.” Alex Scalf also supported Moore. He said, “He has Great Pro-American values and has a strong political stance.”

Doug Jones’s platform is more progressive. Emily Campbell said that she supports Doug Jones. She said, “The man knows what he’s doing, he’s a people’s person, he wants to stand up for the environment, and he’s a civil rights supporter. He was one of the people that prosecuted the men who bombed 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham and killed four African-American girls in 1963.”

Though the voters of Alabama will likely vote for Roy Moore based on previous voting history, Fox News polls showed the candidates nearly tied.
