Coming into the new year, the Bob Jones Council of Presidents experienced some major changes. The January meeting was Karsten Wallace’s debut with the gavel, and he performed well. In addition, the COP had a Co-Chair for the first time ever, in Audrey Holschen. Both Wallace and Holschen will preside over the COP until 2026. The January meeting also was looking like it would be the most pivotal of the year (and of course I picked that one to forget about and sleep in), as 6 amendments and two presentations were up for debate. Here’s how each amendment fared:
- Amendment 1: Rules for debate – PASSED (Unanimous)
- Amendment 2: Electronic Voting – PASSED (52-0-1)
- Amendment 3: Additional Meetings – PASSED (40-11-2)
- Amendment 4: Quorum for Said Additional Meetings – PASSED (Unanimous)
- Amendment 5: De-Prioritizing Trip Funding – FAILED (11-30-9)
- Amendment 6: Ordering Proposals by Treasury Approval – PASSED (39-6-4)
And here’s how the presentations fared:
- Scholar’s Bowl: $1000 for trip subsidies and question costs – PASSED (45-2-0)
- Patriot Racing: $1500 for equipment upgrades – PASSED (43-3-1)
If you look in the title, you’ll notice that both the January and the February meetings are covered within this article. The February meeting was much less eventful, with no amendments and two presentations. We finished with nearly half an hour left, the first time this school year in which we finished early, let alone half an hour early. Here are how the presentations fared:
- Latin Club: $450 for trip subsidies – PASSED (39-3-2)
- Theater: $1000 for trip subsidies – PASSED (37-1-2)
With the conclusion of the January and February meetings, that leaves only March, April, and May left for the delegates of the COP. In these next three meetings, we will do our best to spend our funds wisely and with consideration; the school and it’s clubs will continue to reap the rewards.
