It’s that special time of the year, yet again– prom season. It’s time for American teenagers to dress in the finest gowns and tuxedos and “dance” to a streamline of Top 40 Hits. Though many of us are confident in the fact that we’ll have a good time, I’m sure there are one or two things we’re all just a little bit concerned about.
1. The Pictures You Know Your Parents Are Going To Take
– I like to think of myself as semi-photogenic, but, those “caught-off-guard” “action shots” my family takes of me say otherwise.
2. Where You’re Going To Put Your Purse While You Go Dancing
– Is it just me or is it nerve-wracking trying to find a place to put my purse during prom or homecoming or any other function for that matter? I always think about not bringing it with me but what if I need gum or my cell phone, etc.
-“I always get really anxious whenever I think about where I’m going to put my things while I dance… I can’t just carry them around with me while I’m getting swept away by the beat,” says Rachel Bryan, a junior at Bob Jones.
3. Seeing Your Teachers There as Chaperons
– This is probably a little more awkward than it is stressful. It’s not like I do anything that is worthy of judgment from the teachers and/or faculty, but it still is just a little strange to see your homeroom teacher awkwardly standing around, glaring at the students and reevaluating their lives.
– “It makes me uncomfortable knowing that I have to see them in class the next day. I feel as though they know my life on a personal level,” says Leah Plume, a senior at Bob Jones.
4. The Music They’re Going To Play
– I’m not saying I don’t like ‘The Cupid Shuffle’, but… I don’t like ‘The Cupid Shuffle’.
-“I hope they play ‘Tainted Love’ by Soft Cell… or something that’s not too serious that you can dance to and have a good time– at least something with a nice beat– as long as it’s not ‘The Cha Cha Slide’,” says Samantha Butler, a junior at Bob Jones.
5. Someone Wearing The Same Dress as You (And Looking Better In It Than You)
-I fell victim to this in 10th grade during homecoming, but, of course, I looked better.
– “I’m not worried about that [laughs], I’m borrowing my mom’s dress and it looks pretty ‘fab’,” says Sarah Lafoy, a junior at Bob Jones.
So, this prom season, feel comfort in the fact that the rest of our student body may be worrying about the same little things that you’re worrying about.
