Graduation is quickly approaching! As we near the ever-looming May 20th date that so many seniors have had marked since the date of last year’s graduation, the time comes for seniors to collect the honors they have acquired over the years. Honor Societies, Clubs, and Achievements offer a plethora of decorations varying from stoles to cords to medals and stickers galore. But how many cords is too many cords, and what all should be recognized?
Bob Jones has a strict internal cord policy. If the cord did not come from a Bob Jones club or Honor society, it cannot be worn at Bob Jones Graduation. That being said, you would think that there would be a spreadsheet available listing all the possible cords one can earn to wear on their big day. Alas, no such chart is in sight for our seniors.
There are also complaints about the nuance of cords coming “from” Bob Jones. External honor societies, such as NSHSS, require a nomination from a teacher to join. However cords through those societies are not permitted at Bob Jones Graduation.
Why are students prevented from being recognized for these honors? Should an alternative solution for achievement recognition be offered to students in lieu of the display of foreign cords on the Bob Jones graduation stage? Can we please make a chart for available cords? Whatever must be done, I am begging for the cord crisis to be addressed properly.
Sincerely,
A Senior Lacking Christmas-Tree Level Trim
