Bob Jones High School won State Trumbauer advancing to SETC with its one act play The Perfect Ending starring Lauren Payne. They also received recognition for costumes and had several actors earn All-Star Cast. 60 students earned Superior ratings in individual events.
The competition was held at the University of North Alabama on Friday and Saturday. Within those two drama-packed days, schools from all over the state of Alabama performed one acts and individual performances. Mr. Craft and Mrs. Davis were responsible for 160 of those students, and their hard work paid off.
The Patriot Players placed 2nd with the one-act, just under Spain Park who earned first. Bob Jones gets to compete again at SETC in Kentucky. Abbie Pike and Kate Laury, student directors, cried tears of joy. The words “I’m so happy right now” were barely audible as Abbie Pike accepted the trophy.
The competition was not all drama; it was also a place to network with other schools including our sister school James Clemens who was in their first State Trumbauer Competition. From spectators point of view, they also represented Madison well, and although they didn’t place, they earned the Madison City Schools some major kudos.
Johnny Smith, the actor who played the grandpa, rode the bus home from competition and commented that everyone on the bus gave the trophy a smooch on the ride home.
