Since Jan. 27, Randall Fields and a select group of students have been meeting on Monday afternoons to create something special for the enjoyment of all. A group of primarily female students have taken it upon themselves to join together and form a show choir.
The group functions fully outside of school hours and houses students from all factions of the school, not necessarily students who are already in the Patriot Singers, the school’s formal choir.
The Bob Jones High School show choir’s performance mimics the experience of going to the movies as it was in the past to as it is in the present.
The show itself will be a medley of songs such as Foot Loose, Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head, Under the Sea, and That’s Entertainment, based off the arrangement Cinemagic! Hollywood’s Best Movie Music by Mac Huff. However, with the combined talents of members of the show choir, and Fields himself, this will be much more than a bland arrangement with some line dancing.
Bob Jones student and member of the show choir, Liz Charlton, has taken it upon herself to choreograph the show, an impressive feat for her first time. The show choir features an impressive combination of dance and music by all members.
“The time we have together is limited, but the girls are doing a great job of picking up the moves,” she reports. One musical number is already learned and fully choreographed.
The show choir also tackles other, more uncommon features for their performance. Though still early in the production process, the show is expected to feature such entertainments as a light saber battle to Duel of the Fates from the Star Wars Episode 1 score, and a montage of clips from some of the best movies, past and present, artfully arranged by student director of the show choir, Hannah Forrest.
The Show Choir will have their full performance on May 2 at 7 p.m., the day after the band’s spring concert. As Hannah Forrest puts it, “I’m Confident the show will be magnificent,” and highly recommend marking the date on your calendar. As the Bob Jones art programs show the fruits of their labor at the end of the year, be sure to catch the show choir and appreciate all their hard work, and take a trip to the movies.
