Patriettes Visit New York
January 14, 2017
Over the holiday break, the Patriettes dance team had the opportunity to go to New York City to take a class from the Radio City Rockettes. They also had the chance to watch a Rockettes performance and see the sights of New York City. The Rockettes are a world famous dance company known for precision dance and kicklines. They perform in the Christmas Spectacular and New York Spectacular.
“We went to see The Rockettes perform and then attended their day camp/class. We learned three dances: jazz, kick, and tap. The dances were taught by actual Rockettes!” explained Erin Neal, a dance team member. The dance team also participated in a mock audition and received corrections by the Rockettes.
The Patriettes also had the opportunity to tour the city. “We went to see Chicago and it was amazing. After, we had a tour of Radio City and learned all cool things! We found this amazing grilled cheese restaurant. They had these brilliant Nutella milkshakes that I fell in love with,” praised Erin Neal.
“The next day we went to the MET and had a really great tour around. I loved the art so much! We got to take pictures on the steps of the MET like in Gossip Girl. My friend, Kaitlyn Linehan, and I went to the top of the Empire State Building and it was an amazing sight to see. As soon as we were at the top, the sun had started to set which made it even more spectacular. We then walked around Times Square to see all the buildings and lights. It was beautiful!”
The Patriettes also had the opportunity to learn choreography from a Rockette, Danni Heverin, this summer. Danni is a Bob Jones alumnus. The dance team can use their new skills enhanced by their experiences this spring in competitions.
