From December 5th to December 13th, the Bob Jones Student Government Association (SGA) has been spreading Christmas cheer around the campus of Bob Jones by selling candy cane grams.
For the price of $1, you could buy a candy cane for yourself or someone else that’ll be delivered on December 14th. The money raised from SGA was used to fundraise a local hospital who have kids undergoing surgery. Mrs. Kierstens, SGA sponsor, said, “We raised $450 to go toward the purchase of small toys for local surgery centers. Mrs. Murray [another SGA sponsor] found out that the nurses were buying toys out of pocket to calm younger patients who wake up after surgery but cannot see their parents yet.”
This can be a discomforting and scary experience for many children. The hospital is using the money raised by SGA to buy the children toys so that they will have something to comfort them.
SGA also sold candy canes to the different classes during Patriot Path on December 13th. As a member of SGA, I was one of the many going around the school selling candy canes. Not only did the kids buy candy canes, but the teachers also bought candy canes as well. I asked Mrs. Panagos, the teacher who bought the most from me, what she thought about the project. “I thought that [the] students showed a lot of initiative,” she replied. “I had five different groups come to sell candy canes during Patriot Path. It was interesting to see how each group had different results in sales based on their sales tactics… but overall, I thought it was super nice.”
Many teachers and students funded this project and not only gave to the children but also shared loads of Christmas cheer throughout the halls of Bob Jones. Thank you to everyone who participated!
