The pep rally is an event that most students look forward to attending: shorter classes, excitement in the air, seeing our classmates perform, and games that students participate in. It’s an opportunity for students to show their school spirit and support our amazing football team. Even though it seems that pep rallies are only important for people who do sports, they also allow students to feel a sense of community and help boost morale and enthusiasm.
At Bob Jones, there have been two pep rallies, both raising the school spirit while cheering on the football team. Students enjoyed a wonderful performance by the cheerleading team, dance team, and the marching band. The performances were also followed by a tug-of-war competition between the basketball, baseball, and softball teams and other competitive games between different grade levels. For the rival game against JC, students dressed up for spirit week and wore red on Friday.
All of these events served to energize the crowd and get us excited for the football games.
Students have agreed that pep rallies have improved from last year. Mr. Yancey said his efforts to improve the pep rallies include “planning for them in advance and researching ideas that I believe will engage kids.” He also mentioned that we are looking to have another pep rally for the Homecoming game and also one during basketball season.
When interviewing students participating in the pep rally, they shared their experiences. Alaya Obianozie, a sophomore basketball girl, said, “I played tug of war against softball girls, and it was very fun. Something I would like to see in the future pep rallies is musical chairs.”
Additionally, Wilder Caves, a sophomore and a part of the marching band, said, “I would like to see a rap battle.”
In the end, pep rallies are a great way to hype up the crowd and encourage school spirit, combining various events and activities both entertaining and engaging. Make sure to look forward to our future pep rallies for the Huntsville game and to kick off basketball season!
