This year, the Bob Jones Marching Band has put together a spectacular show of dancing and music to perform during football games that’s all about partying! Featuring songs like “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO, “Rock and Roll All Nite” by Kiss, “Fight for Your Right,” by Beastie Boys, and “Party in the U.S.A.” by Miley Cyrus, the band has worked from mid-July to put on something special for spectators.
The performance is meant to hype the audience, so the show is aptly named “Let’s Party!” and also allows for the band members to have just as much fun as the crowd. “I like our show, it’s really fun,” said D’Asia Malone, a member of the clarinet section. “My favorite part is definitely the dance.” The show features a small dance for the whole band and even has a few members rap the lyrics to “Fight for Your Right.”
With intricate drill and faster-paced songs, this year’s halftime show proves to be more difficult than in the past. It isn’t just by chance that the show is as exciting as it is, after all, and many members expressed the show’s complexity. “The show was kind of hard at first especially because I was still getting into the groove as a drum major,” confessed Alex Fedoseyev, one of the junior drum majors in the band, “but as it went on it got more fun. My favorite part is just watching it all come together–it’s a very fun experience.” Each game is its own performance as the band constantly works diligently to put more and more detail into the show.
The featured music is also geared towards a large audience. From kids to seniors, it appeals to all with its classic and timeless tunes. “My favorite part of the football show is just that we have a variety of generations–stuff that older folks will like, stuff that [younger folks] will like,” admitted Ms. Thomas, one of the band directors. The band has made sure everyone can sing along to the lyrics of their favorite song with these picks!
