Lights, curtains, action! The Patriot Players have put on yet another state-bound One Act: Stuck With You by our very own Jesse Tilton! This emotional rollercoaster of a piece follows Samantha Lockhart, an intelligent young woman in the 1940s who grew up working in her parents’ bookstore. One day at the store, she meets a man named Bill, who teaches Samantha what it means to feel love and loss. Thanks to Bill, Samatha receives a job as a lab assistant working for the government. She immediately feuds with fellow scientist Baxter Thorndyke. When the two find themselves quite literally stuck together, will Samantha and Baxter take the risk of falling and learn to begin new chapters of their lives, or will they stick with safer plans?
Back on November 1st, this One Act performed at the district competition at James Clemens High School. Stuck With You was one of the two One Acts to win “Best In Show” and move onto the state competition at the University of North Alabama. Stuck With You also won “Best Lighting” thanks to 10th grader Ryan Scopes, as well as “Best Costuming” run by sophomore Libby Allen. The technicians received perfect scores by all judges as well! As for acting, “All Star Cast” was won by senior Sarah Pierce (Rosemary), senior Tevin Sheehy (Bill), and sophomore Cypress Bryce (Samantha). “Best Supporting Performer” was received by 12th grader Tyler Hatten (Edwin).
However, besides the amazing writing, tech, and acting, why else should people come see the Patriot Players’ latest work? The lead actress Cypress Bryce believed, “One big reason is just because it’s a fun show! We have some great actors who make it worth seeing and who bring a great story to life!”
According to technician Samuel Klasing, “The show itself is a feel good rom-com with a good story and awesome set.” The junior also claims, “The shows for the past several years have also been incredibly enjoyable and so reputation alone would point towards a reason to see it.”
“Students have put in months of hard work to put on this show,” said 11th grader Kate Hughes (Ensemble). “Everyone involved has put their heart and soul into this production!”
Stuck With You returns to the stage with two in-school performances on Friday, November 22nd. For the school show, students can see the play during 2nd or 4th blocks.
- 2nd Block: We will release students at 10:20
- 4th Block: We will release at 2:10
