On Saturday, February 1st, the Bob Jones Drumline will be competing at Green Hill High School in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. Their show is titled “Echoes from the Void” and features a dark atmosphere with black holes, stars, and other space elements. This theme is in contrast with their show from last year “The Emerald City,” which was more lighthearted and based on The Wizard of Oz. I think that this shift is very interesting and will allow the group to explore a different style than they have done in previous years. If you have seen the drumline’s past shows, then I think this show will offer a new experience than any year before. Also, if you have never seen an indoor drumline show, this one will be a great introduction to the indoor marching arts.
Zaylee Rodgers, a front ensemble section leader, said, “I really like this year’s show theme. We were overdue for a dark-abstract show, and I think this year has a great group. The front ensemble has so many good players, and I’m grateful to be a part of it. My favorite part of the drumline would either be my friends or playing music”.
As the “honorary” vibraphone section leader, I am excited to see where this show goes from now. The style of music is a refreshing change from previous years and I think it has the possibility of placing highly at this first competition and at the world championships in Dayton, Ohio. The group this year also has so much talent and skill, which allows us to perform more complex and entertaining music. So far, I like the show and love how everything is coming together in our rehearsals. I can’t wait to perform this show and hope to see you all there!
