On February 1, 2025, Bob Jones AFJROTC hosted its annual Military Ball, giving cadets the opportunity to learn and experience military etiquette in action.
In attendance were Bob Jones Principal Mrs. Sylvia Lambert and her husband, Mark Lambert, along with Assistant Principal Mr. Andre Reynolds and his wife, Mrs. Lawanda Reynolds. Multiple recruiters from different military branches were invited, including U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Jarod Small, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Thompson, and U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sergeant Ryan Bartolo. Unfortunately, Chief Clark was unable to attend due to personal matters. Cadets from 8 other JROTC units in the area were also invited; Army JROTC, Navy JROTC, and Space Force JROTC.
Cadets had the option to have their pictures taken by professional photographer, Mr. O.J. Rice, who generously offered his services free of charge. Afterward, cadets escorted their guests to their assigned seats and awaited the arrival of the head table. The head table consisted of Major Melissa Lacey, Mr. and Mrs. Lambert, Cadet Wing Commander C/Kuan He, and Former Cadet Wing Commander and Current Cadet Wing Advisor C/Gyan Bhagat.
Following their arrival, the Honor Guard posted the National Colors and Air Force Colors. Next, the POW-MIA Ceremony was conducted to honor those missing in action. C/Kyle Mackrell and C/Pedro Henriquez orchestrated the ceremony, receiving high praise and appreciation for their contribution.
The President of the Mess, C/Kuan He, assigned the roles of Mister and Missus Vice to cadets C/Owen Chalmers and C/Sydney Turpin, who were responsible for announcing the various events and activities of the evening. After multiple toasts, attendees were invited to enjoy the buffet. Mr. Reynolds commented on the meal, saying, “This food is actually good,” which highlighted the chef’s dedication to providing an enjoyable dining experience.
Once the mess was adjourned, the princes and princesses for each class were announced:
Freshman Class:
- C/Paxton Wardrick and C/Samantha Armburst
Sophomore Class:
- C/Owen Chalmers and C/Caroline Barcomb
Junior Class:
- C/Nicholas Tate and C/Caitlyn Johnston
However, the Senior King and Sweetheart remained a secret until the night of the event. This year’s AL-20021 King and Sweetheart were C/Gyan Bhagat and C/Charlotte Droege.
Following the announcement, “Senior Sillies”—humorous gifts given by Major and Chief to AFJROTC seniors based on their personalities and inside jokes—were distributed. Mr. Vice, C/Owen Chalmers, reflected on the tradition, saying, “It was a great time to reflect on the seniors who are leaving and this past semester.”
Finally, the ball commenced, and cadets took to the dance floor to enjoy the night. The DJ, Mike Payne, accepted song requests both before and during the event, ensuring a fun atmosphere for all. Event coordinator C/Caitlyn Johnston shared her thoughts: “I feel like the Military Ball was very well organized and ran smoothly. I think everyone had a great time. The teams we had were amazing.” Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the planning committee, the event was truly a success.
