Beautification Week is a busy week here at Bob Jones High School, though some may not know exactly what it is. It’s your chance to earn service hours while making a positive impact on our school’s physical environment, and you and/or your organization can still get involved!
Simon Adkins, the creator of Beautification Week, said, “Beautification Week was created for two main reasons. First and foremost, to move towards aesthetic improvements at Bob Jones. We wanted to find a way to do something for not just the students, but the faculty as well. Secondly, it was created to bring together students at Bob Jones.” He continued by adding, “I originally came up with the idea, organizing the first Beautification Week last year and to be short, it surpassed my expectations. As a result of the success, I knew we had to make it an annual event.”
Additionally, Beautification Week is a perfect opportunity for students involved in clubs and honor societies to gain unlimited service hours. Lila Lindsey, another student highly involved in the execution of this year’s Beautification Week, emphasized that “almost every organization in the school gets involved when it comes to Beautification Week, giving service hours to those who participate!” However, it is not required that a student be in a club or honor society to attend.
Beautification Week is open to all grades, running from February 24th to February 28th. Each day after the dismissal bell rings, participants should report to the commons where they will be able to find all necessary supplies and instructions. To ensure your service hours are properly recorded, remember to check in with a group supervisor upon arrival!
Whether it be washing windows, cleaning popular areas around the school, or wiping down desks in classrooms, there is going to be a variety of tasks to complete that will cater to different interests. Not to mention, who said you couldn’t invite your friends? Listen to the morning announcements in the next week to learn more about this service event.
To finish off, Michelle Duong, a strong advocate for Beautification Week stated, “Your participation helps maintain our school’s image. It is very exciting to see everyone make a difference in the world by coming together and performing these good deeds.”
