On Saturday, November 9th, the Bob Jones girls’ cross-country team ran in the AHSAA XC State Championship meet in Oakville, Alabama.
The team put on a show.
The top five girls recorded personal records, running their fastest times of the year. Neda Mobasher, an 8th grader, lead the team with a time of 19:36. Soon after, Lindsey Martin and Lillie Robinson finished with times of 19:54 and 19:55, respectively. The fourth and fifth runners on the girls’ team, Morne Le Roux and Aspen Robinson, finished with times of 20:30 and 20:31, respectively.
“That is the best I’ve seen them run–ever,” remarked Greg Hope, the assistant coach of the Bob Jones cross-country team.
The special thing about the girls’ cross-country team is how the members of the team run together. During every practice of the last few months, the girls have been running shoulder-to-shoulder. At the State meet, they ran the same way. The first and fifth runners were separated by less than one minute. Few other teams have the chemistry that the girls’ team is lucky to have.
The girls’ outstanding performances earned the team fourth place in the entire state of Alabama.
Peyton Tyler was the lone State meet qualifier of the Bob Jones boys’ team. He, like the members of the girl’s team, ran exceptionally.
Peyton placed fifth out of two hundred and six of Alabama’s best runners. Running a personal best time of 16:03, Peyton earned the Bob Jones school record.
“When I was getting tired, I thought about the many months of hard work and training I have invested into this one race,” Peyton said. “I’m glad the hard work I put in paid off.”
All in all, November 9th was a great day for the Bob Jones cross-country program.
“They ran out of their minds,” said Coach Presnell, the head coach of the team.
