On December 7th, the Bob Jones Indoor Track & Field season began. The Bob Jones track team went to the Birmingham CrossPlex to compete against some of the best track teams in Alabama in one of the first track meets of the year. If you are interested in joining the Bob Jones track team, it is not too late. Coach Presnell is the head coach of the track team. You can go to his room to sign up.
The team’s season began with an auspicious start. Michael Samaras, a junior at Bob Jones, is running on the track team for the second year. At the meet, he ran a time of 2:28 in the 800 meter event. That is the best time he has ever recorded in the event. “Our team already looks great,” he said.
Peyton Tyler, a junior at Bob Jones, ran a time of 4:45 in the 1600 meter race at the meet. Peyton placed 6th in the event, and he encourages everybody to join the track team. “If you can run, jump, throw, or even if you just want to learn how to get better at running, jumping, or throwing, you should join the team. When I first started, I wasn’t fast at all, but I’ve improved so much because I stuck with it and trusted Coach,” he said.
Gabe Day ran his first race of his track career at the meet. A Bob Jones junior, he ran a time of 2:15 in the 800 meter race. To Gabe, the atmosphere was “really exciting.” He placed 21st out of 121 runners–impressive, considering he has only been practicing for a few weeks. Gabe is living proof of the excellent coaching every track athlete receives from Coach Presnell. It has only taken a few weeks for Coach Presnell and the rest of the Bob Jones track coaching crew to turn people like Gabe into outstanding runners, jumpers, and throwers.
Sign up and try your hand at track. “You will be surprised to see what you can do,” says Coach Presnell.
