For the third time this season, the Lady Patriots of Bob Jones High School will be playing the Trojans of Hazel Green High School. This time the stakes have been raised. It’s win or go home.
The Class 6A Region Area 15 tournament for girls’ basketball begins today at Sparkman High School. The Lady Patriots will be facing off against former Bob Jones varsity girls’ coach, Tim Miller. Though today’s match-up can be seen as personal, Coach Petty is looking beyond that.
“It’s the area tournament. It doesn’t matter who we play. The bottom line is that whoever wins goes on the next game, and whoever loses, goes home,” said Petty.
In both head-to-head games against Hazel Green, Bob Jones lost by a 10+ scoring differential, losing 43-33 and 55-41. Can the third time be the charm? Senior captain Chandler Elder sure thinks so.
“We’ve gotten to know their playing style from the last two games. We are more prepared this time. If we play fundamental basketball and play as a team, then the outcome could be in our favor,” Elder said.
Elder verbally committed to the University of Alabama in Huntsville last August.
For some of the other seniors, like Anna Robertson, this game could potentially be the last one of her basketball career.
“I’m hoping it’s not the last game of my career. All 14 years that I have played ride on this one game,” Robertson said.
Bob Jones will play Hazel Green at 7:30 tonight at Sparkman High School.
