Reggie Ragland. Name sound familiar? It should. Ragland is the University of Alabama’s starting linebacker and a former Bob Jones Patriot.

Often referred to as the heartbeat of the Alabama defense and one of the best linebackers in his class, Ragland has excelled since his days at Bob Jones.

Recently named SEC defensive player of the year, Ragland stays close to his roots by keeping in touch with many of his old Bob Jones teammates and coaches over social media.

Ragland worked exceptionally hard to get into the University of Alabama. “He gave 100% on and off the field,” said his former english teacher Ms. Roberts. It took a lot of time and focus. Although he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball, he gave both up in 10th grade to devote all of his time to football and school.

Now, in only 3 1/2 years, Ragland has just graduated with a degree in consumer affairs. He had the chance to enter into the NFL draft as an underclassman but chose to forgo the draft to fulfill a promise he made to his mom, that he would earn his degree. Not only was he a leader on the field, he was also a member of Alabama’s senior leadership council setting an example for younger athletes at Alabama on how they are expected to carry themselves. As if that wasn’t enough, Ragland has put in over 50 hours of community service, visiting hospitals, churches, and schools.

With his time at Alabama coming to an end, Ragland is one of the top linebackers for the 2016 NFL draft, ranking 13th overall by ESPN’s Mel Kiper and 20th by Todd McShay. There is no doubt Ragland will go on to play professional football with the NFL.

It just goes to show you that if you put in the effort and have the drive, you can truly achieve anything you set your mind to.
