Indoor Track: Getting Ready for State

Rylee Wood, Writer

Bob Jones track is back and better than ever.

Led by Coach Jefferson, the indoor track program has made major improvements over the last two years. In 2014 at the Indoor State Championship, Bob Jones boys tied James Clemens for last place in the 6A division, only scoring one point in the whole meet. The girls team finished 17th out of 20 teams that year, also.

After that year, Coach Jefferson was assigned as the head coach and brought in a whole new staff. That first year with Coach Jefferson, Bob Jones boys finished 9th in the new 7A division, scoring 23 points. Those points included ten from Miles Strickland, who was the indoor triple-jump state champion in 2015. “It’s great to come back a state champion, but you can’t stop working out here. This sport isn’t easy,” said Strickland.

Last year Strickland was on the 4×100 team, which ran the fastest time in the state last year. All members of the team graduated last year except Strickland. “It’s sad to see your teammates go, but the team has so much more depth this year. We’re going to be very strong.”

Strickland recently decided upon attending Tulane University.

The boy’s team is predicted right now to place 8th or better this year, according to  al.milesplit.com.  It would be the best finish the team has had in years. Indoor State is the weekend of February 6th.

After indoor season, practice for outdoor starts, and the track team is always welcoming new athletes. If you have any questions about joining outdoor track, you can talk to Coach Jefferson.
