Bob Jones Cheer Goes to Nationals!
February 15, 2017
The Bob Jones Cheer team headed to Nationals and were ready to win. The UCA championship took place in Orlando at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. The National High School Cheerleading Championship is one of the most prominent competitions in the country and is nationally televised on ESPN. Every year, the Bob Jones Cheer team has always been able to go to Nationals.
The team competed in the state competition last semester, and both Junior Varsity and Varsity won. They competed against Sparkman and James Clemens.
Zoe Williams, Head Coach of Bob Jones Cheer Team said, “I’m most excited about seeing the girls show off all their hard work and be successful.”
The team went to several Disney parks before the competition. They went to Hollywood Studios and rode the Tower of Terror, Rockin’ Roller Coaster, Star Wars, and the Toy Story ride.
Mrs. Williams said, “The Toy Story ride was when all the girls tried to beat my score, but they ALL FAILED. So, I’m the reigning champion.”
Senior Abby Gilbert said, “My favorite part of the season was coming together as a team and winning state. What I’ll miss the most is having 12 sisters to see every day during Cheer P.E. and all the laughs we had when we were together.”
JV ended up placing in the competition and beat the reigning champions who had won for 3 years in a row.
The Bob Jones Varsity team was the only team from Madison City to make it all the way to Finals. The team overcame so many difficulties and placed in the Top 15.
The team returned yesterday morning. Remember to congratulate the team if you see them in the hallways! Both teams worked really hard for Nationals.
