Last year, Lacrosse was one of the fastest growing sports in America according to connectsports.com, and the sport is going into the 2017-18 season at Bob Jones.

Lacrosse still is gaining traction at Bob Jones. In a survey, ten students out of the forty-three surveyed were unaware that Bob Jones had a lacrosse team. Although it is not as popular as football, Alexander Agnew, a midfielder on Bob Jones said, “[Lacrosse is] way more intense than football, but lacrosse has a lot less contact to the head being a contact sport.”

This year, Bob Jones is looking to have a terrific year. “We have nearly all of our returning players from last year with some good younger players stepping up. With so many seniors on the squad it is giving our younger guys some more time to develop and learn which we have needed for a few years,” said Coach Paul Burke. “With the seniors that the team has, they still need younger players to step up. Overall I like the depth we have, but we still are not 100% secure at all of the positions. We definitely have some freshmen and sophomores that are surprising us with their improved quality of play.”

Also, on players coming in, Coach Burke said, “They haven’t missed out! So if you want to come learn and start out on JV (9th-11th graders come on we will get you in THIS YEAR!!), this could be the spring sport you love the most.”

Aaron Moll, a first-year player said, “We want to do great things this year. I want the team to do great and I want to improve greatly and continue to get better at lacrosse.”

Bob Jones lacrosse needs fan support this year. On new fans coming, Coach Burke said, “It will move fast, and if you understand the objective is to throw the ball in the goal, with physical fast defense and lots of running and passing in a constant movement and flow, then it’ll be exciting.”

He added, “I also say this… MAKE NOISE !!  Team BJP loves fans and support, and we have a blast playing, practicing and being the top program in our area. We have slick new uniforms this year to debut, so from the brand new players that are freshmen or the seniors that are veterans, we all will come roll out in clean-look of white on white gear at home.”
