Bob Jones’ First Win of the Season!

Wonder why traffic was a little worse than usual Friday? Night lights are back, Patriots! The comforting smells of Chick-fil-a and the loud roar of the band is something you won’t want to miss this season. On August 24, Bob Jones kicked off the season with a close game of 17-16 versus Christian Brothers.

This game had everyone on the edge of their seats! Throughout the game, Coach Kent Chambers was giving live play-by-plays on Twitter for all those who couldn’t attend. During the game, Bob Jones was either falling a little behind or tied, yet the band still roared fight songs and the fans kept their spirits high, yelling “Go, Patriots!”

As the 4th quarter hit, Bob Jones was 10-16, giving Christian Brothers a false hope of winning. The band, to keep spirits hyped, played the fight songs louder and the cheerleaders shouted their chants. Christian Brothers intercepted the ball from us and the crowd released a gigantic sigh. When all hope was lost, Coach Chambers tweeted, “4th and goal at the 1 yard line. (3 sec left) Time Out BJ,” the crowd was in anticipation. Then, with those last 3 seconds left, Kahlil Griffin makes a touchdown! The crowd erupted; the game was tied, 16-16. Only 1.5 seconds were left, leaving Bob Jones enough time to score the extra point. The crowd was silent. The ball flew through the air in between the goal posts, and Bob Jones had just won 17-16 in less than a second! Griffin told Al.com his reason for success was, ” I have to give it all to my line because they blocked down. I knew I was going to get it because of the line. I have the best line in the area.”

Students flooded the field waving American flags and filled the stadium with screams of victory. Post game, after asking cheerleader and senior, Brayla Fern, how she thought this season was going to turn out, she said, “The football team will be successful and everyone will have fun making memories this year! ”
