The basketball season opens at home on  Thursday, November 7 against Grissom. Thursday’s game is also Military Appreciation night in honor. Active duty and veterans can enjoy half price admission.

A new basketball coach has come into play, and her name is Jazmine Powers. Coach Powers is originally from Decatur, Alabama and was excited to accept the offer of being the girls’ head coach and being closer to family. We sat down with Coach Powers and discussed this season.

Q: How do you think the season is going to be for JV and varsity girls?

A: “I think the season is going to be exciting as well as challenging, which is good. Challenges will help us grow individually and as a team.

Q: What are your goals for this season?

A: “My goals for this season is to establish core values, such as effort and attitude. I want to build a foundation for the girls’ basketball program. Another big goal is to build genuine relationships with players and players.”

Q: Do you have any personal goals for this season?

A: “My personal goals for this season are to stay in a state of gratitude, create memorable experiences with my players, always have a balance between work and personal life, and to be open to receive help.”

Senior guard Amber Duo shared some thoughts about the new head coach. “I think she is a great addition to the team. She is very consistent and cares about the little things which is good. Coach Powers knows what she is doing, and she will always make sure we’re doing what we’re supposed to do.”
