After an abrupt end to the 2020 season, the Bob Jones girls soccer team is back at it again with their sights set on winning the state trophy. The kickoff to the season began with the JP II Falcon Fest tournament. The varsity girls had a very successful start to the season with a 6-0 win over Grissom, followed by a tie against James Clemens, and a narrow 1-0 loss to Vestavia, ranked number one in the state.

“I’m excited to see our girls back on the field after losing two thirds of the season in 2020,” said Varsity head coach Luke Oakley. “This year was looking questionable but thankfully we have a schedule and so far so good.” JV coach Danielle Schager explained she is excited games are underway and is looking forward to a successful season. Schager said, “I’m excited to see everyone play and see us continue to build as we go through this season.”

The squad has very high hopes for the season. “I definitely think it’s a high possibility we win state,” said senior Taylor Troutt. “It’s going to take a lot of grit, hard work, and determination, but I know this team has what it takes to earn the state title and come out on top.” Oakley stated his goal for the 2021 soccer season is the same, “Win area, and then state.”

The girls will travel to Birmingham on February 19th to compete in the annual Lakeshore Shootout tournament. The Varsity and JV girls’ schedules can be found HERE, and follow @bjhs_soccer on Instagram for game updates and more information.
