A Star Coach Gets His 400th Win!

Our BJHS Boys Basketball games this past week have been intense, but luckily the team pulled through and won in true Bob Jones nature. The season is just one month from being over and it’s looking like the season is coming to a great end. Here are your scores below:

January 4: Away at Austin W 55-52

January 11: Away at Florence W 47-38

But the win at Austin was not the only special moment for the team because our very own BJ Coach Luther Tiggs got his 400th career win. It’s his 32nd year in coaching and 22nd as head coach. In an interview with The Madison Record Coach Tiggs stated, “This milestone has never been about me as I’ve been truly blessed with an elite group of assistant coaches and plentiful players who were committed to set a core values, work ethic and a team above self-type attitude.”

When asked what coaching basketball has taught him, Coach Tiggs stated, “My biggest takeaway is the relationships you develop and the impact you have on young people’s lives. It’s never been about winning on the court, but off the court as well.”

And when asked about this season, Coach Tiggs broke it down. “We started the season slow with so many inexperienced players. We’re just starting area play and you want to be playing your best basketball at this point in the season.” He also mentioned the leadership of junior Sean Paul and seniors Christian Rice and Bryson Smith and how they have been helpful to the other players.

Coach Tiggs and all of us at Bob Jones hope to end the season strong and with an opportunity for postseason play. On behalf of the Patriot Pages Team, we would like to congratulate Coach Tiggs on his 400th career win!
