With spring approaching, the tennis team prepares for a season full of wins. Since October, the persevering coaches have been driving their players in order to perform their best for the upcoming season. They put in the work with “plenty of conditioning in fall, agility, footwork, strength training, training mentally and working on mental toughness, and working on overall skills,” Coach Katie Bryant shared. She is in her fourth year of coaching and follows after her dad, Bill Bryant.

As for the players, their hard work has paid off. They were victorious over Cullman with the girl’s team winning 5-4 and the boy’s team winning 9-0. They also scored big over Muscle Shoals, winning 5-4 overall. The girl’s team also beat James Clemens 7-2, winning matches left and right.

There are many talented and experienced players on the tennis team. Here is what a few star players had to share:

Lilian Qu, who has been playing for eight years, shares that tennis is more fun when playing with friends and goofing off. “Tennis is a good way to get out energy,” she added.

Parker Free’s favorite part about playing tennis is “being creative on the court and chopping everyone up.” He’s been playing for six years. He advised new players to play everyday and you will get better.

Jasmine Rivera has been playing for two years. She stated that her favorite part about playing tennis is the competition.

Reed Rafferty has been playing for six years. He advised new players to “love the sport, winning comes later”

Jonah Moro’s favorite part about playing tennis is winning. He’s been playing for seven years and he advised beginning players to “play more to get better”

Good luck to the tennis team as they travel through their season! Come out and support the team if you can!
