On Thursday, 14 April 2022,  Bob Jones AFJROTC cadets boarded a bus at 0600 to attend The JROTC Drill and Physical Fitness Nationals Competition, in Daytona Beach, Florida. The 10-hour trip consisted of a mix of studying, sleeping, and card games.

Planning for BJHS AFJROTC cadets to participate in Nationals began at the beginning of the year, as the Drill Team was laser-focused on returning for a second year and taking home more hardware.  The Physical Fitness (PT) team was formed in order for AFJROTC Blue Knights to compete on all fronts, including the PT portion of Nationals.

There were over 100 Teams and 65 Schools Competing at Nationals – all with the hope of winning trophies.  Schools from Alaska, Texas, Kansas, and even from Germany and other overseas bases came to Daytona Beach to compete against the best in drill and fitness. But, it was not all work and no play.  Cadets took advantage of the beautiful weather and gorgeous beach to relax after competing in one of the most competitive drill and fitness competitions in the country.

On Saturday evening, over 1,500 JROTC cadets arrived at the Ocean Center to await the Awards Ceremony. The results of all the cadets’ hard work paid off when The Blue Knights from Bob Jones High School was named runner-up for the division 2 championship, and the PT team placed 5th for the 3K run. Bob Jones also took home 1st place women’s standing long-jump (Marjorie Baumbach) and 2nd place men’s standing long jump (Kendall Jackson). The Cadet Corps Wing Commander, Shaniya Jacobs-Lanier, was awarded the Jean Weil Foundation Scholarship at the Awards Ceremony.
