Sam Mitchell on the Mound

Sam Mitchell, a junior at Bob Jones, has been recognized for his outstanding performances on the baseball field. He is a varsity pitcher for our baseball team, and he wears the number 21. Mitchell’s skills brought him a verbal commitment with the University of Alabama. Mitchell has thrown 66 strikeouts this year in nine games he pitched. Head coach Jared Smith shared that “Sam has been one of our top two pitchers for two years.  He is cool and collected on the mound and really works hard at his craft of pitching. We expect him to continue to improve.”

Mitchell has been playing baseball since the young age of six. Mitchell has played even after having a broken elbow. Motivation drives people to their limits and, according to Mitchell, he had “[a] love for the game since a young age and a competitive nature to always win.” He’s shown this with the accomplishments of being one of the best pitchers in the state.

Mitchell has been playing baseball for around 11 years, and Mitchell’s love started from watching his older brother Thomas play. Now he works out four days a week and throws three days a week. He gives 110% at practice to improve his talents and make everyone proud. A fellow teammate and an outstanding pitcher himself Braden Booth said, “Sam is a great leader; he gives pre-game speeches. Overall, he fills up the zones, which helps make him such a great player.”

The varsity baseball team plays Sparkman this evening at 5:00 and 7:00.
