As the last mandatory meet of the season, The Randolph Invitational stood as a solemn goodbye to Bob Jones XC for many. Luckily, the weather gave many people the opportunity to end their careers or seasons on a high note. I have never seen more perfect weather at an XC meet before. Mid 60s and sunny. For the Varsity running at sectionals, this meet served as a test, for many of the teams we’d be competing against were running the race as well.

Analysis:
This was a very good performance from the varsity. Several PRs, and the second-lowest team average we’ve had all year. Lehmann further established himself as the fastest 8th grader we’ve had in 7 years, breaking that record by 20 seconds. Jocson and Hall had big PRs for the first time in years. As for the team, we crushed Grissom, but that was mainly due to the fact that two of their top runners ran in the JV race.

Analysis:
When I saw Hughes move into the top 10 around the 1-mile mark, I was pleasantly surprised. When I saw that he had held his place going into the final stretch, my jaw hit the floor. Unfortunately, Hughes ended up losing his place in the top 10, but at the end of the day, he ran a 40 second PR two days after running JV gold. White did something similarly stunning, as he ran a 40 second PR as well. Schultz and Bourgeios ran PRs as well. Davis, coming off of injury, got to run his first race of the season and did alright for himself. As for the team score, it isn’t surprising. Normally, we would be competing for 2nd at a meet like this, but most of the JV elected not to run, given that they had run JV gold 2 days beforehand, which is the sane decision if you ask me. Hughes and White are warriors.

P.S. Oakville Results!
The XC team ran at the Oakville Invitational on October 24, and apart from Micah Meeker (8, JMS) and John Swinde (7, JMS) running PRs, nothing eventful happened.
P.P.S. Sectionals!
The top ten on Varsity will run at Sectionals on Halloween. If we place top four as a team, we go to the State Championships. If we achieve our goal, there will be another article. If not, I doubt I’ll feel like writing one. Hopefully this spontaneous series gets the closure it deserves…
