Our Varsity Girls’ basketball season is going to be great this year here at Bob Jones. The team has a new coach, Sherrell Hobbs Robertson. The players are having a lot of fun but are also learning to be disciplined because of her. This evening, you can meet Coach Robertson and the team at the Meet the Patriots event in the gym from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Attendees will also meet our cheerleaders and boys’ basketball teams. There will be a 3-point contest, a half court contest, a skills relay, a scrimmage, and even a TikTok contest. It’s only $2 to attend, and concessions will be available.
Sherrell Hobbs Robertson brings a lot of coaching experience. Her first year of coaching was in 2015 at McNair Middle School, where the team went undefeated and won the middle school championship. From 2017 to 2021, she served as the head coach at Mae Jemison High School, leading them to become state championship runners-up in 2021. She was a basketball star herself, starting her college career at Auburn in 2005.
Basketball season is about to kick off. The team will open its season at the Hazel Green Tip-Off Tournament. The first home game will be on November 12 against Buckhorn. You can check out the rest of the schedule HERE.
Last year, Bob Jones girls’ basketball went 32-4 overall, with a 6-0 record in the region and a first-place finish in 7A Area 8. This year, our team has been practicing diligently for the upcoming season. During the first semester, they practice in the 4th block and sometimes even before school in addition to the 4th block. They also do group training sessions after school. Coach Robertson brings in trainers and other specialists to benefit the girls. Sometimes they have both morning and afternoon practices where college scouts came to watch. Coach Robertson wants the best for her players and gives them opportunities to develop and shine. The team has also done a Media Day and several community events and fundraising events.
A student poll revealed most students think highly of the team, with some predicting they will win the state title and others predicting an undefeated season. The fact that so many students at Bob Jones have positive expectations for the team is encouraging for the girls’ season this year. Be sure to show up for the first home game!
