BJHS Patriot Esports tryouts are coming up this month and there’s many options and availability among our teams here. Going down the line BJHS Esports provides a team for Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros: Ultimate, Overwatch 2, Splatoon 3, Street Fighter 6, Madden 25 & NBA 2k25, Rocket League, Valorant, League of Legends, and a couple new additions to the roster, Marvel Rivals & Fortnite. Fortnite has been requested many times to be included into the program, along with the recent explosion of popularity from Marvel Rivals, which we’re glad to announce that both will be available to BJHS Patriots. Joining the Fortnite team requires you be ranked at least Unreal, and will be formatted as 2v2 Zonewars during games and practice, which will most likely be held on Thursdays or Fridays. “I think I may give Marvel Rivals its own day on Friday for practice,” said Coach White. For the Marvel Rivals game format, it ‘s presumed to be the original 6v6 format with 2 of each class, Vanguard, Duelist, and Strategist. As for the tryout dates, League of legends, Overwatch 2, Madden 25, & NBA 2k25, are all happening this week as of writing this, specific tryout dates include:
League of Legends – 1/14
Overwatch 2 – 1/15
Rocket League, Madden, & NBA – 1/16
Super Smash Bros: Ultimate – 1/21
Mario Kart 8, Street Fighter 6, & Splatoon 3 – 1/22
Fortnite – 1/23
Marvel Rivals is still being introduced to PlayVS, The Esports Program BJHS uses, so there are no tryouts concerning Marvel Rivals just yet. There has been an email sent out to all students regarding the games and dates as well though, within the email also holds each form you need to complete in order to let Coach White know you’re trying out. It is essential you complete this form before showing up, as you won’t be able to try out.
Madden & NBA 2k are the exceptions for this, as they need an in-person meeting concerning tryouts. These games all hold tryouts in Mrs. White’s room and the Esports room after school at 4:30pm. Each game requires practice sessions and cooperation with your team.
If you make it into your respective team, these will eventually lead to finals and Alabama State Finals. Bob Jones High School has brought our Rocket League and Madden teams to State Finals many times before, having 8 consecutive wins for Rocket League, and 3 consecutive wins for Madden thanks to Corey Robinson.
Now concerning other basic information on Esports: Practice days tend to overlap with other games to fit into the tight schedule throughout the week, so it may be expected to share a room with another game’s team during your practice/games. BJHS also provides food days to its players, you may only participate in one of these per week if it is offered. For example, if you’re a part of 2 teams, you can only choose to have your meal on one of your game days, not allowing you to eat on the next day. Esports is always in need of players, so feel free to try out on the respective dates.
