Every year, as March rolls around, basketball fans from all over the world prepare to cheer on their favorite teams in one of the most fascinating yet nerve-racking events of the year- March Madness. This exciting NCAA tournament features many different colleges and is known for blow-out victories, shocking buzzer beaters, insane nail-biters, and of course devastating losses. Overall, there is so much to watch. To add, some may say creating the perfect bracket is a favorite while others may say seeing players excel is. Ultimately, this tournament is single-elimination and is often referred to as “one and done”. A simple mistake could cost greatly.
To start off this year’s Men’s March Madness tournament, a First-Four battle occurred between Saint Francis and Alabama State. Alabama State won by just two-points and then went on to face Auburn in the First Round on Thursday, March 20th, falling short.
Additionally, the Women’s College Basketball teams started their tournament with a similar contest between Princeton and Iowa State, both 11-seeds. Iowa State survived and advanced to play Michigan in the First Round on Friday, March 21st.
A couple senior students around Bob Jones High School were given the opportunity to weigh in their thoughts on who the National Champion for Men’s and Women’s Basketball would be. Taryn Blume, a senior, stated, “I think Florida is going to win for men’s because they have a high shooting percentage and Walter Clayton Jr. has averaged about 18 points per game. For women’s, I think South Carolina will win because they won last year and have the most experience being in that position.” Another senior, Danielle Nguyen, exclaimed, “The men’s Auburn team will for sure bring home the trophy because they are truly the best and bleed orange and blue. Also, the Connecticut women’s team will receive the trophy because they have THE Paige Bueckers.”
The National Championship game for Men’s College Basketball will be played Monday, April 7th (Time TBD) and the National Championship game for Women’s College Basketball will be played Sunday, April 6th (Time also TBD).
So, if you enjoy watching sports and want to get your blood flowing, definitely watch a game or two in this year’s 2025 NCAA Men’s and Women’s College Basketball Tournament, going on now!
