It’s that time of the year again! The college basketball regular season is coming to an end, which means March Madness is just getting started. March Madness is a tournament of 68 teams that compete for the national championship in 7 rounds. The committee selects the 37 best at-large teams, with no limit, from one conference. Then, the committee creates a seed list of all 68 teams, from strongest to weakest, which determines the order of teams in the bracket. Finally, the bracket is organized into 16 seeds across 4 regions south, east, west, and midwest.
Fans also create brackets of the entire tournament, predicting the winner of every game in the tournament. People have different strategies from choosing the best teams, every underdog team, choosing their favorite team, studying every team’s recent performances, and choosing from that, or even their favorite mascot. Despite the odds of having a perfect bracket being 1 in 9.2 quintillion, people still do it anyway for fun. The closest someone has been to a perfect bracket is Gregg Nigl, who predicted 49 games correctly.
March Madness will be streamed on CBS, TBS, TNT, and TruTV.
