Everyone knows that since the recent split for the new high school, teams and groups have all been cut in half by the loss of members. The Bob Jones band is not unaffected by these issues.
Due to the opening and rezoning of the new high school, the band lost many valuable members; the most loss was felt when the assistant band director Mr Anderson moved to James Clemens.
The difficulties included two new grades moving up. Training two new grade of students to march isn’t easy. The band, always tenacious, seems to be pulling through. Last Friday, at the first James Clemens-Bob Jones game, both bands played together for the first time since the split. It was military night, and BJ/JC both performed Salute to America’s Finest in honor of military appreciation night.
Andrew Hollingsworth, a former BJ student, how it felt to this division in the bands and their first performance: “It was very nostalgic but different.”
They came together for this first performance, but it will be interesting to see how competitive it gets in the years to come.
