Photography is the science of capturing light or other electromagnetic radiations, but to Jessica Gallagher, it’s much more. For fifteen long years, Jessica searched for her niche, something to set her apart. She found it in a heavy music venue with a rowdy crowd of several dozen sweaty teenagers.
“I saw several photographers taking pictures of the bands,” Gallagher recalled. “It felt like they were competing with one another. I wanted in. I wanted to be the best.”
Quickly, Jessica developed her skills and her contact list. Longtime friend Blaythe Steuer encouraged Jessica and helped her realize her passion. For two years, Jessica has attended nearly every local show and taken pictures of the bands, thus planting herself in the local music scene.
Next year, Jessica plans to attend Brooks Institute in California to pursue a career as a photographer. “A career in photography is like doing something I love and getting paid for it. I can’t see myself doing a normal desk job.”
