School assignments are filled with procrastination, research and boredom. Rarely ever does a student go home and say to his or her family, “I am so lucky, I have a project due in one week! I am gonna go upstairs and work on it all weekend.” It just doesn’t happen often.
That is, unless you are working in Mrs. Krell’s Honors English 11 class. Mrs. Krell, a teacher at Bob Jones High School, decided to add some excitement to the usual drab research project. The Gatsby Project is divided into five categories: fashion, dance and music, economics, organized crime, and food. Students choose the groups according to their preferences and then design the projects according to the project specs. For example, if the group had chosen organized crime, then students would have to dress the part and inform the class on famous mobsters in the 20’s.
“I expect extraordinary presentations, and I have only three rules: Be informative, be entertaining, and be class appropriate,” Mrs. Krell explained.
The students also enjoy it.
“The project was fun, and I enjoyed working on and presenting the project.” Tori Stapp said. “It was probably one of the most fun school assignments I ever worked on.”
