Everybody loves getting presents. Christmas charities tend to focus on giving presents to the children, but what about the elderly in our community?
Be a Santa to a Senior is a non-profit Christmas charity by Home Instead Senior Care that focus on the senior citizens that usually don’t receive gifts on Christmas. This charity partnered with Kroger to put up a tree in the grocery store with the different wish lists as the ornaments.
Any ornaments that are picked up can be returned back to Kroger with the participant’s name and contact information. Volunteers will wrap and deliver the gifts personally to the seniors. The last day to send donations is December 11th.
Bob Jones FBLA is participating in this charity by adopting two senior citizens and donating blankets and other items that were on the wish lists. These items included weather radios, socks, and other necessities. Sadie Turner, a Bob Jones FBLA member said, “I think it is a very charitable thing for FBLA to do. It helps us focus on someone other than ourselves this holiday season.”
Giving back to the people in our community is important, especially during the holiday season. These people would be so thankful to receive gifts on Christmas. Mrs. Panagos, a Bob Jones teacher and FBLA sponsor said, “Around the holidays we often think of children and we can easily forget about the elderly, especially those who are in nursing homes, those who have outlived their spouses, those who are unable to drive, or those who have children that have moved away.”
Charitable events like this allow people to spread holiday cheer and give back to the ones who need it the most.
