In a city with a declining music scene, it’s hard for local bands to find somewhere to play. The nearest music venue to Madison is close to thirty minutes away in Decatur. Some parents don’t want their children straying that far away from home.
On February 15th, a Bob Jones Destination Imagination team is opening a new music venue. The first show will feature local bands such as metal band, Abandoned Sanctity, and hardcore punk group, Give In, as well as groups such as Dimensions, Belial, and Sindarin. Doors will open at 5:30, and the show will start at six o’clock. Admission is only $5, and all proceeds will go to charity.
What does this have to do with Destination Imagination? The challenge for this team—comprised of juniors Emily Bohatch, Nisha Patel, Sami Foster, Alma Atassi, Gabby Daso, Robin Newman, and Lane Mathews—is a community outreach project called project OUTREACH. In this challenge, students have to meet a community need; for this team, it was the declining music scene. There is a catch, though: the team must accomplish this with no outside help.
