In a school that is so focused on math and the sciences, there are very few electives with a focus on writing. Arguably, the pinnacle of these writing classes is Multimedia Publications, or, as it is fondly referred to by its students and teacher, Lit Mag. Every year, this group of students takes on the task of writing the content, laying out the content in Adobe Creative Suite, and producing a 200-300 page literary magazine that not only follows a theme but also represents the school as a whole.
“The Eclectic has helped me prepare for college, and I really enjoyed working with everyone to create another lit mag,” comments Jessica Gallagher, staff member.
The Bob Jones lit mag, The Eclectic, competes in state and national competitions each year. It has placed in both.
This year, The Eclectic staff chose to explore the concept of juxtaposition for its feature section. The staff studied how juxtaposition is used in art, writing, and even in humor. The contradiction of imagery or ideas forces viewers and readers to think about these concepts in new ways or form new meaning altogether.
General submissions are accepted in traditional formats.– prose, poetry, drama, creative nonfiction, and comics. Any student in any class can submit in these categories.
Final submissions will be taken until March 13th. Please bring your writing samples to room S215.
