Mrs. Dauma’s Destination Imagination teams brought home the state championships at UAH this past weekend. Students worked collaboratively in the team challenges in which they can have no outside help from adults or teachers, and were forced to use their own creativity and organization skills. They spent months working with budgets, scheduling, and working on challenges that vary based on the category chosen. Students also competed in instant challenges on site.
Senior Bobbie Hoskins said, “My team and I are competing this year in Challenge B, the scientific challenge. This challenge includes the main part, researching new ways to use wind energy, and minor parts, having a character that stays invisible throughout the whole skit and can’t be personified by any of us and we also have to have kinetic art that moves for 15 consecutive seconds. My team decided to make a modified sonar using the wind to find the invisible character.”
In the upcoming months, students will fundraise money to attend global competitions in May. These include a rummage sale and a pancake breakfast.
