The FFA, which originally stood for Future Farmers of America, is a club that practices leadership and performing community service with others students. Despite the old name, FFA is not trying to make students into farmers in any way. The club does just about anything and everything, including building a float for homecoming and tailgating at the James Clemens football game. In its first meeting of the year, there were over 20 activities discussed, from planting trees to giving food to the poor to adopting-a-mile for a year.
FFA is a good program for anyone who wants to learn how to be a better leader while having fun. Based on the results of the first meeting, the officers will then choose which activities should have a committee. A student will individually pick which activities they are interested in and join the corresponding committees.
According to Mr. Wes Stroud, the sponsor of the program, the most important thing in FFA is creating activities that provide an opportunity to build leadership and citizenship. Members of FFA are happy to have a program like this that they can participate activities and learn citizenship, leadership, determination, and organization skills. If you want to get involved just see Mr. Stroud in the VOAG which is located through the back cafeteria doors to the right. The next meeting is September 10th at 7:15 in Mr. Stroud’s room.
